Abu Rudeineh: Israeli Settlement Policy Harms World Peace

RAMALLAH, July 18, 2011 (WAFA) – Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh Monday condemned an Israeli government plan to build over 300 new housing units in two settlements in the West Bank warning that this policy could harm world peace.

“The Israeli settlement policy does not only harm Arab and Palestinian-Israeli peace, it could also harm peace in the entire region and the world as a whole,” he warned.

“We condemn this decision and all of the Israeli government’s plans to build settlements on Palestinian land. This is absolutely rejected and cannot be accepted because all settlements are illegal and should be dismantled,” he said.

An Israeli housing ministry official announced Monday plans to build 294 housing units in the settlement of Bitar Elite, south of Bethlehem, and another 42 units in Karni Shomron, south of Nablus.

Abu Rudeineh said that this decision “is another reason why we should go the United Nations and the Security Council to get recognition and full membership of the Palestinian state.”
