Bardawil: Hamas would never threaten Jordan’s interests

AMMAN, (PIC)-- Hamas would never act in a way threatening the political, military, or economic interests of Jordan, Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, a Hamas leader, told a Jordanian daily published on Friday.

Bardawil, speaking to Ghad newspaper, said that Hamas’s presence in Jordan would be in its capacity as a resistance movement with clear political, national goals.

Hamas can find a place in any other area in the world but it is keen on maintaining close contacts with the Palestine cause via its presence in Jordan, he elaborated.

He said that Hamas would provide backing for Jordan and for the Palestinian national project and would protect Jordan in face of projects calling for resettling Palestinians in Jordan.

Bardawil did not rule out meetings between the Hamas delegation in Amman, attending the reactivation of the PLO committee meeting on Sunday, and Jordanian officials.

Jordanian premier Awn Al-Khasawne had recently said that his government was pondering allowing Hamas cadres and their families to live in Jordan on condition that they would not get involved in any political activity or open an office in Amman.
