Israeli premier to announce new political plan

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will announce a new political plan, and would present it to the Palestinians by next March, Israeli daily Yediaot Ahranot reported on Sunday.
Israel wants to arrange a summit meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, while an ongoing dialogue is set to last till March, the newspaper quoted state officials as saying.
On Saturday, Israeli envoy Attorney Yitzhak Molcho and chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat met for the third time in Amman. It is expected that Netanyahu will present his plan on borders and security issues at this time, it added.
Israel and the Palestinians have agreed to hold a fourth meeting, scheduled for January 25, a day before the expiration of the Quartet's three-month deadline for the two sides to issue a statement on these two dossiers that would allow resumption of talks.
Netanyahu has promised to present clear positions on borders and security. In the past, he has hinted that big settlement blocs will remain inside Israel while other territories will be transferred to the Palestinians, the newspaper said.
Some settlements outside the main blocs will also remain under Israeli sovereignty. Netanyahu is adamantly opposed to a return to the 1967 borderlines and has repeatedly stressed that Jerusalem must remain united under Israeli rule, the daily added.
He has thus far refused to present his plan publically, which may cause a stir among his coalition partners, the paper noted.
Some political figures believe that exposing Netanyahu's plan may cause the general elections to be moved forward, the daily reported.
His political plan is scheduled to outline clear security positions such a demilitarized Palestinian Authority, Israeli rule in the Jordan Rift Valley for several decades, as well as clear borderlines in the West Bank, it added.
