Araby meets Hamas leader on Palestine, Syria

CAIRO, Jan 6 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Araby met here Friday visiting Hamas political leader Khaled Meshaal on the latest Palestinian and Syrian developments.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Meshaal following the meeting, Al-Araby said the talks had handled a host of key Arab issues, chiefly the Palestinian cause.
He added that they had also discussed ongoing efforts to complete reconciliation among all Palestinian factions.
He emphasized that regional peace will never be achieved unless Israel ends its occupation of Palestinian territories.
On Syria, Al-Araby said they had considered the Syrian situation, adding that he had asked Meshaal to inform Syrian authorities that it was necessary for them to work in full honesty, transparency and credibility to stop violence in Syria.
He went on to say Arab observers are in Syria to stop violence and bloodshed.
For his part, the political leader of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, said his movement is very keen to complete inter-Palestinian reconciliation as a prelude to forming a national unity government and then holding general elections.
Blasting Israeli recalcitrance and US bias towards Israel, he said: "The Palestinian side has only national options to snatch our Palestinian rights and to unify the Palestinian decision."
