Dailies Highlight Israeli Decision to Build 213 Housing Units in Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, January 12, 2012 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies Thursday highlighted the Israeli government’s decision to build 213 new housing units in Efrat settlement near Hebron.
The three dailies focused on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government that gave financial incentives and offers to encourage Israelis to live in West Bank settlements.
Al-Ayyam headline said: “Israel breaches the pledges to Washington, supports and encourages Israelis to buy apartments in settlements.”
It also featured an Israeli plan to confiscate 740 dunums to establish a “national park” on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on President Mahmoud Abbas reiteration of his commitment to a serious peaces process that will lead to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by establishing a Palestinian state.
The three papers printed photos of Ali Bin Abi Talib mosque in Deir Estia, which was vandalized by Jewish settlers, who sprayed offensive graffiti on its walls.
Al-Quds editorial tackled the Israeli government’s measures against the old city of Jerusalem aiming to take over the old city of Jerusalem and expel its residents.
It said, “We need to end the Palestinian division and find proper solutions to protect Jerusalem and help Palestinians who suffer from the Israeli government’s aggressive procedures.”Palestine News & Info Agency - WAFA
